The Space to Breathe Study Waitemata
From 1 August 2011, the Space to Breathe programme will be studied among children with asthma and their caregivers in the Waitemata region only. Some information about this study is outlined below.

What is being studied?
The Space to Breathe programme delivers one-on-one assessment with a respiratory nurse and education to caregivers to children with asthma in Early Childhood Education Centres. For this study, caregivers include staff at Early Childhood Education Centres and parents/guardians of children with asthma. If effective, asthma outcomes such as hospitalisations and attacks due to asthma, should improve among children who have received the programme.
How can I enrol my child in the programme?
To take part in this study, your child must:
- attend an Early Childhood Education Centre in the Waitemata region;
- have been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor; and
- be aged between 2 and 4 years, 8 months.
